Checkmate:
pattern recognition is
the new killer business skill.

Did you know that the distinguishing factor between different levels of chess players - weak players, stronger players, masters, grand masters - is largely down to how many patterns they can recognize and play? No surprise then that chess players train by studying patterns from famous games. Imagine if you could train the same way but in business!

Not possible right? Wrong. Not only is it totally possible, it's as powerful as in chess too. On this page you will find a series of articles explaining the technique as well as decomposing business successes (a'la famous games) from a pattern recognition point of view. My hope is to light a fire in my fellow business pattern spotters (I know you are out there) and create the kind of debate, discussion, analysis and sharing of ideas the chess community has been enjoying for decades.

In almost every article I refer to a pattern database, which I have been building for several years now, and currently have only in Excel form. I’m in the process of converting the excel into a “wiki” for everyone to enjoy. It will be open source, so others can add their own discoveries of patterns, add comments, start discussions, and build the database as a community. I’m aiming to complete and publish the first version within the next few months.

I hope you enjoy reading the articles!
